Family and Youth Activities for Children of All Ages
Special Events For Everyone! These include ceremonies, gatherings and celebrations, day long retreats. Group visits from school groups or college classes. Please contact us to arrange a visit.

Children of all ages and their parents welcome. No fee but donations are welcome.

The Family Meditation Group meets at 10:30 am on the last Sunday of each month, except where noted (see schedule below). Led by Rev. Munnich, these gatherings introduce children and their parents to meditation through storytelling, discussion, crafts, and free play. Everyone is encouraged to join us on Family Meditation days for the Buddha’s Birthday and Flower Festival Celebration (Hanamatsuri) and planting of the Children’s Garden in spring; our Sangha picnic in July; and the celebration of our ancestors (Segaki) in the fall.
All ages are welcome. Parents provide healthy snacks and potluck dishes to share during the morning’s activities.
Family Meditation includes a short period of meditation and Dharma teaching. followed by activities for both adults and children. We may program may include a play, music, movement or other group activity that will compliment the season and the discussion’s theme. During mild weather we may hike or go on a field trip. Winter months may include board games by the fire, reading aloud or origami or other crafts. We end with a potluck party every month with healthy refreshments.
Annual Summer Youth Retreat for young people ages 7 - 14

Activities include short meditation, chanting, study and learning to work together. Children will have opportunities to learn about Zen Buddhist ethics and practices through guided activities and free play. Supervision is provided by adult volunteers.
The Annual Youth Retreat includes meditation, chanting, study and working together. Young people will have opportunities to learn how to meditate other forms of mindfulness practice. Arts & crafts activities, outdoor games, nature walks and fun!
Starts Saturday at 9:00 am and ends Sunday at 4:00 pm. This retreat involves and overnight stay. If your child wishes to commute please consult with Rev. Munnich. Suggested Dana $75.00 for the first child: $25.00 for each additional child. If you have more than three children who would like to participate please inquire about the fees at 828-645-2085. We want to make sure that all who want to participate will have the opportunity.
An overnight retreat at Great Tree for mothers and their children. Activities are age appropriate, time for mothers alone and children together to begin a foundation of family practice together. All ages welcome. The event is a weekend, beginning on Saturday morning at 9am, but you can make arrangements to arrive on Friday night.
