Wish List

Our goal is  to have a low impact on our location, a hilltop facing southwest, maintain a small garden, use environmentally safe products and organic foods in the kitchen. Donations are welcome for every-day items.

While there are some things we can always use, we have limited of storage.  Please call first to be sure so we can coordinate with our schedule of activities.

Board members Needed – Term of 2 years. Great Tree’s Board of Directors needs has three spaces open for volunteers. Board Members meet monthly throughout the year and participate in strategic planning and in advisory capacity to the Abbess. Elected annually, you may serve up to six consecutive years. 11 meetings per year (none in August) of which one is reserved as  a board retreat for training in compassionate communication. Some committee time, mostly by email and phone makes up a total of 80 hours per year.

For the Kitchen -kitchen is vegetarian, based on macrobiotic principles using organically grown food-stuffs

  • Grains, legumes (rice, oats, beans)
  • Dried fruit or fresh fruit

  • Gift Cards from local grocery stores
  • Temple cook -or tenzo – commitment to cook for temple retreats and sesshins. A wonderful work-practice opportunity to share your skills during monthly events. Vegan, macrobiotic practice.

For the Garden and Grounds

Throughout the summer we need volunteers to help with maintaining the grounds on a regular basis! Home-made lunch on work days!  In winter, road upkeep and repairs are critical.

We need constant road upkeep and help  to make the driveway and parking areas safe and weather-proof.

  • Seasonal garden plants
  • Fire wood (please check first)
  • Wood chopping, pick up
  • Garden and grounds help year-roun
  • Maintain and expand our walking trails
  • Load of mulch, compost for gardens
  • Seasonal clean up, pruning & planting
  • Truckload of gravel

For Facility and Operations

  • Toilet paper
  • Ecover dishwashing liquid/pellets
  • Ecover laundry detergent
  • Help with minor repairs, maintenance (ongoing)
  • General cleaning for special events

For the Office

  • Computer paper
  • Technology helper
  • Help with mailings – collate, stuff and prep for bulk mail
  • Write articles for the newsletter
  • Help with filing, archives

For the Zendo

  • Flowers*
  • Incense
  • Pillar & beeswax candles

For General Use

  • New single-bed mattresses (please call for dimensions)
  • Futons and beside tables, table lamps
  • Single sheets, blankets, mattress pads
  • Bookshelves
